How You Can Help Specifically, additional monies are needed to: *Hire a consultant to assist with the development of Navajo language curriculum and materials. Because so few Navajo language materials are marketed commercially, the teachers and staff of Puente de Hozho must create many of their classroom instructional materials by hand, The Navajo Cultural Consultant will supervise the development of Navajo language and cultural materials for the classrooms. *Hire consultants to teach students traditional arts such as sandpainting, weaving, and silversmithing. *Purchase additional Navajo language and cultural materials (the ones that are available commercially) *Develop a Cultural Resource Center that will be a glimpse into the past (featuring cultural artifacts) as well as a view into the future as students develop and display their artwork, present concerts with native instruments, poetry readings, and dramatizations in Navajo. This center would include an amphitheater for community cultural performances presented by the students *Purchase artifacts, a weaving loom, and other materials for the cultural center. *Build a traditional Navajo hogan on site. The hogan would be used for classroom instruction, story telling, community meetings, and other important gatherings presented in the Navajo Way. *Build male and female sweat lodges to conduct traditional sweat ceremonies under the direction of *Build a shade house for community gatherings during the spring and summer months. *Open more schools around the reservation.
